This memorial, unveiled in July 2024 (80 years after D-Day), honours the men of the 297th Combat Engineer Battalion who built a Bailey bridge over the Taute River here on 21 July 1944. Around 6 p.m. that day, the village was shelled by German artillery, killing two engineers and causing a large amount of ammunition to explode.
Several information boards describe the events between 6 June, when the first paratroopers of the 82nd Airborne Division landed here, and the construction of the bridge on 21 July 1944.
