A German gun position from WWII, located on a hill near Dover, south of Foldingbro, high above the Kongeå valley. The position was part of the Gudrun position, a defensive line built from August 1944 with anti-tank ditches, trenches, concrete and barbed wire barriers, and gun emplacements
Purpose & Function
The gun position served as a framework for defending the German rear area in the event of a possible Allied advance through southern Jutland. Although no direct fighting ever took place, it formed a visual and logistical barrier. In April 1945, the Germans withdrew and moved much of their equipment to the Kriemhild position to the south .
What can you see?
– Remains of concrete holders or foundations for guns.
– Structures for supporting branches of the army: trenches, command posts, and possibly anti-tank barriers.
– Viewpoint above the valley, view all the way to Sønderskov Castle in clear weather
