Cavalry Cadets Memorial Saumur

Memorial that remembers the Saumur cavalry cadets that were killed near the D’Aunis Farm during the Battle of Saumur, 18-20 June 1940. Since the battle occurred after Marshal Pétain called for an end to fighting (17 June 1940), the fighting is often considered one of the first acts of the French Resistance.

The inscription states: ‘To the memory of the soldiers who died for France on the 19 June on the D’Aunis plateau: Andre Gaston, Alain Jehan, Etienne Berger, Paul Bodot, André Compan, André Courtois, Pierre Cousin, Gilles Duget, René Duramois, Georges Gand, Maurice Geffroy, Michel Humbert, Honoré Lechat, Louis Laurent, Palmyr Paquette, M. Pachantour, Joseph Pitiot, Robert Prat, Jean Proharam.
