War Memorial Anogia

The monument commemorates the victims who fell for freedom and democracy from Anogia, Crete, in the period 1900 - 1944.

After Anogia, the highest village on Crete, had already been destroyed by the Ottomans in 1822 and 1867, it was again destroyed by the German occupiers on 13 August 1944, based on an order from H. Muller, in which all male inhabitants were executed.
