This memorial commemorates the three French citizens who were shot dead by the Germans in this spot in an act of revenge.
In the weeks following D-Day, the resistance in Brittany, together with French paratroopers from the SAS, carried out a guerrilla campaign against German troops in the region (Operation Digson). During these actions, on 18 June, two cars carrying Gestapo or German military police were ambushed.
In retaliation, on 19 June, the Germans shot and killed the first three French civilians they encountered: an 83-year-old woman, a 33-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy.
