This memorial is dedicated to the resistance fighters (Maquis) from Saint-Marcel who died in the fighting in June 1944.
In the weeks following D-Day, the resistance in Brittany, together with French paratroopers from the SAS, waged a guerrilla campaign against German troops in the region (Operation Digson). During these actions, the first battles of the Battle of Saint-Marcel took place on 18 June 1944, in which the Germans fought against the resistance and the SAS paratroopers. The first victims fell at this location and are commemorated here.
