New Park House (Childhood Home Montgomery)

New Park is the childhood home of Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery. His parents, Bishop and Lady Montgomery, lived here until the mid-20th century. The house itself was built in 1776 by Samuel Montgomery. It was here that the future World War II general spent his periodic leave during World War I in 1914, away from the front in France. Although he was not born here, Montgomery referred to New Park as home. The house has recently been renovated but is a private residence and cannot be visited. Montgomery's connection with Ireland is highlighted here:

Note: The photo shows the house in its dilapidated state; it has since been renovated.
