Stumbling Stones Kaiser Josephstrasse 149

These brass plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones), placed on October 25, 2019, commemorate:
* ADOLF REUTLINGER (born 1910, protective custody in Dachau in 1938,
deportation to Gurs in 1940, interned in Rivesaltes, fled to Switzerland in 1942)
* ALICE REUTLINGER (born Geismar 1909, deportation to Gurs in 1940, interned in Rivesaltes, fled to Switzerland in 1942)
* RONJA REUTLINGER (born 1936, deportation to Gurs in 1940, interned in Rivesaltes, in hiding in children's homes in 1941, fled to Switzerland in 1943)

These Stolpersteine lie here for a Jewish family who were deported and interned but was able to escape during the Second World War.

"Stolpersteine” is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of the last voluntary residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the victim’s, date of birth, and fate. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: “A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten.”
