It opened in 2010 and is housed in Villa Clodio, a magnificent mansion dating back to 1610 that used to be the summer residence of an aristocratic Venetian family.
The museum boasts an impressive collection of military items from Venetian times, the Cretan Revolution, and other periods of Greek history. The most significant pieces are the authentic Greek flag from the Cretan revolution, weapons from the Balkan Wars and the Macedonian struggle, Venetian clothing and weapons, historical uniforms of the Greek Army, and outdoor exhibits such as warplanes and tanks.
There are, among other things, two pre-war pieces (75 mm cannons, presumably 7 Veld artillery), made by Krupp but with Dutch text "Den Vaderlandt Ghetrouwe..." and "Je Maintiendrai" with the W (for Wilhelmina?) and a HIH plate (that of the later HIH Siderius) The Hague.
