In Berzano di San Pietro stands a popular memorial dedicated to his sons who died in the Italian-Austrian War of 1915-1918. Two missing persons are also listed.
The information board reads:
“Victory Bulletin
November 4, 1918
The war against Austria-Hungary, under the high leadership of His Majesty the Supreme Duce, began on May 24, 1915. The Italian army, inferior in numbers and resources, waged the war with steadfast faith and tenacious courage, uninterrupted and open for 24 months, and won.
The gigantic battle, which began on October 24 and in which 51 Italian, 3 British, 1 American, 1 Czech-Slovak, and 2 French divisions participated against 73 Austro-Hungarian divisions, is over.
The Austro-Hungarian army has been defeated.
It has so far left behind some 300,000 prisoners, complete staff units, and no fewer than 5,000 guns.
The remnants of what was once one of the most powerful armies in the world have fallen hopelessly and in leaving in disorder the valleys into which they had so proudly descended.
Armando Diaz
Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Army”
