Memorial 1st Battalion of the 141st Regiment Anthéor Beach

This memorial commemorates the Allied landing on this beach during Operation Dragoon by the 1st Battalion of the 141st Regiment, 36th of the American 36th Infantry Division. The battalion was awarded a Presidential Unit Citation for its courageous and heroic actions.

The text on the plaque affixed to the pillar of the viaduct reads:

‘Sur cette plage d'Anthéor, la plus difficile du secteur assigné à la 36e Division d'Infanterie américaine lors du Débarquement de Provence, s'est déployé le 1er Bataillon du 141e Régiment. Son héroïsme, sa bravoure, et son esprit de corps durant les journées des 15 et 16 août 1944 furent récompensés par une Presidential Unit Citation décernée par le Général Dwight D. Eisenhower. LEST WE FORGET! Pour ne pas oublier! Plaque apposée le 14 Août 2022 par Frédéric MASQUELIER, Maire De Saint-Raphaël, Président D'Estérel Cote d'Azur Agglomération.

((On this beach at Anthéor, the most difficult beach in the area assigned to the 36th American Infantry Division during the landing in Provence, the 1st Battalion of the 141st Regiment was deployed.
