During construction, the municipality decided to convert the planned first-grade school building into a second-grade school (school U). In 1897, the building on the left was expanded to accommodate 520 students. Later, it also housed first-grade school no. 130, which was renamed Kastanjepleinschool in 1922. The first and second floors of the building were used by the German occupying forces during World War II, presumably for police purposes.
