Gass Plant Alkmaar

In 1852, Alkmaar switched from oil and candlelight to gas lighting. The gas was supplied by the Alkmaar Pipe Gas Company, founded by Amsterdam entrepreneurs Ferrari, Zimmer, and Holtz. They began laying the city's pipeline network that same year.

After the war, the factory was completely demolished, except for one building. This building still has bullet holes in the iron beams under the roof from American air raids (October 14 and 23, 1942).
