Tympaki Airbase

Built by German forces in late 1941 using British and Greek POW labor, Tymbaki Airfield served as a strategic base for Luftwaffe bomber units targeting the eastern Mediterranean and North Africa. Units such as Kampfgeschwader 54, 77, and 76 operated from the site between mid-1942 and late that year
.
In 1942, British Commandos launched Operation Albumen to sabotage the airfield, only to find it temporarily abandoned due to air raids launched from Egypt.

Post-war, the Greek Air Force used the airfield through the 1950s and Cold War era, notably hosting F-84Fs of the 115th Squadron. It later functioned as a shooting range (1973–1979) and seasonal housing site from 1986 onward.

Today, Tymbaki sees limited aviation use. Though plans for demilitarization and redevelopment (e.g. agriculture or solar energy) remain unrealized, the site hosts glider flights and car races during summer months
