This Benedictine abbey was built between 1719 and 1731. Between 1840 and 1920, it served as a military school. Under the National Socialist regime, the complex became a National Political Research Center. In July 1940, it became a prisoner-of-war camp for (primarily) French and Belgian officers. The camp was closed in June 1943, but the complex remained in use as a testing facility for GEMA (Gesellschaft für und elektrische elektroakustische apparate).
