This monument in the form of a shackled male figure commemorates the citizens of Useldange who died in World War II. Two black plaques on either side list the names, dates of birth and dates and places of death of the victims.
The fact that most of the victims died in German military service can be explained by the fact that Luxembourg became part of the German Gau Moselland in 1942. It thus lost its independence. As a result, conscription was introduced in Luxembourg and many Luxembourgish men had to fight for the German army. Of the 12,000 conscripts called up, 3,000 were killed.
