Mount Ida

The group that kidnapped German General Kreipe and his driver on April 27, 1944, later split into two groups, each with a prisoner. Kreipe's group had designated Mount Ida as a stopover and then continued their journey to the Amari Valley. During the German occupation of the island, the mountain was a hiding place for many Greek resistance fighters and SOE agents.

With a peak of 2456m it is the highest mountain on Crete.
