"In proud and loving memory of Giles Robert Pretor-Pinney, Lieut-Commander Royal Navy of Somerton Erleigh, Killed in action 2nd March 1942 in command of HMS Stronghold during the Battle of the Java Seas. Also to the Officers & Ships Company who lost their lives with him in the service of their Country."
G.R. Pretor-Pinney. Lieutenant Commander. HMS Stronghold. Died 2 mar 1942. Aged 44. Commemorated on Plymouth Naval Memorial.
HMS Stronghold was an 's' class destroyer launched in 1919. At the outbreak of WW2 she was based in Singapore. Later operating out of Fremantle she was spotted a Japanese reconnaissance seaplane and engaged by the heavy cruiser Maya, and destroyers Arashi and Nowaki and sunk with the loss of 70 lives.

"To the Glory of God and in ever loving memory of Private Norman Harding of the 2nd Hants Regiment. The dearly beloved younger son of F.G. and H.H. Harding of Somerton Mill, who died at Ypres March 13th 1918, aged 19 years. Interred in North Cemetery Ypres. God took him to a higher service."
