The square features the monument to the Four Days of Naples (Monumento alle Quattro Giornate di Napoli), designed by Marino Mazzacurati and inaugurated on 14 June 1969. The work consists of four large panels carved in stone, reminiscent of the Four Days, and is incorrectly referred to as the monument to the street urchin (Monumento allo scugnizzo). The “Neapolitan street urchin” was not, in fact, the only protagonist of the September 1943 uprising against German soldiers, but took part in it together with all the other insurgents.
