Stumbling Stone Nassaulaan 20a

This brass plaque (Stolperstein or stumbling stone) commemorates:

* JOHAN HEINRICH DIEMER (born 1904, arrested 24 January 1945 in Groningen, deported 17 March 1945, died 31 May 1945 in Sandbostel)

This Stolperstein lies here, a resistance fighter, deported and murdered in the Second World War.

‘Stolpersteine’ is an art project in Europe by Gunter Demnig in memory of victims of National Socialism (Nazism).
Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the pavement in front of the former residences of (mostly Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque bears the name of the victim, their date of birth and their fate. In this way, Gunter Demnig provides an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He quotes the Talmud: ‘A person is only forgotten when their name is forgotten.’
