Huis Aerdt

Huis Aerdt was built in 1657. It is the successor to the medieval Ter Cluse Castle.

In May 1940, this house served as the command post for the "Aerdt Border Guard." This border guard consisted of a section of the 2nd Company, 3rd Battalion, 43rd Infantry Regiment. This section was lightly armed and its sole task was to warn of German border crossings by means of light signals. Afterward, they had to withdraw to the line along the Pannerden Canal near Pannerden.
The section was commanded by Second Lieutenant E. Scholten.

During the German occupation, between 1940 and 1945, German troops were stationed in Huis Aerdt. The house was severely damaged by war in the final months of the war.
