Between Alkmaar and Heiloo lies the wooded Blockhove villa park, with spacious villas and gardens. The area became popular with German officers, who requisitioned many of the houses for their service quarters.
Blockhove fell entirely within Widerstands-Nest 6 (W.N. 6) and was surrounded by barbed wire. On the south and west sides were heavy defenses such as an anti-tank ditch, a Höckerhindernisse (height obstacle), and a Rollkörpersperre (rolling body barrier).
