Originally a chapel of the Holy Ghost Hospital (14th century), the building was converted into a weigh house in 1582. The 1583 renovation resulted in a richly decorated Renaissance façade.
The Waagtoren (Weigh House Tower) followed around 1600. Traces of the old chapel are still visible in the pavement next to the building.
On May 28, 1939, the Air Raid Protection Service (LBD) established itself in the Waag building. This organization, part of the Association for Air Raid Protection, aimed to inform and prepare citizens for air raids.
