On May 19, 1940, the German Radio Service established itself at Wilhelminalaan 10, as part of the Nachrichtendienst (Nasal Information Service). This unit managed cable and transmission lines, crucial for Alkmaar as a regional telephone hub.
The office coordinated both PTT lines and the Festung Kabelnetz (Cable Network). Associated infrastructure included bunkers in the Alkmaarder Hout and at Piet's mill, plus a relay station on Heilooƫrdijk/Kennemerstraatweg.
