Westerlicht House was built in 1932 as a retirement home. In 1943, the Wehrmacht requisitioned Westerlicht House; a year later, the building was released. It secretly housed 16 people in hiding and the staff of the Dutch Interior Forces, led by Lieutenant Colonel Wastenecker.
After a raid, caused by a resistance fighter with "Westerlicht" in his pocketbook, Wastenecker managed to hide as a senior citizen. Most of the people in hiding escaped or went into hiding in time.
