At this site, on the morning of 26 March 1945, 81 men and six women, prisoners of the nearby Gestapo camp Hirzenhain, were shot dead by an SS unit. On 25 March 1945, six male prisoners were told to dig a large pit for a petrol depot in the forest near the camp. At least that is what they were told. But while evacuation of part of the camp took place the next day, the six men were again taken to the pit, along with 81 female prisoners. There, an SS commando shot them in small groups.
