Reformed Church Axel

The church was built in 1899 as a Reformed church building designed by Tjeerd Kuipers. An extension was added between 1918 and 1919, adding a new facade with an attached turret.

The church was hit by a grenade during World War II and was damaged. A photo from 1944 shows a large hole in the side of the building. The flag was flown here during the liberation of Axel in April 1944.

After the ecclesiastical schism of 1945, the building came into the hands of the Reformed Church. The Reformed Church moved into new premises, the Ichthus Church, in 1953. Renovations took place in 1948 and again in 1998.

The organ, built by the Standaart company, dates from 1918. The church is now a designated municipal monument.
