This monument honours the American 90th Infantry Division, which liberated KZ Flossenburg.
The camp was liberated on 23 April 1945 by American troops from the 358th and 359th US Infantry Regiments of the 90th Infantry Division. The SS had already evacuated the camp in mid-April, during which thousands of prisoners lost their lives during the forced marches.
When the camp was liberated, the Americans found only about 1,500 prisoners remaining.
