The Bazeilles Ossuary was built between 1876 and 1890 and houses 3,000 French and German soldiers.
The building consists of a semi-subterranean crypt with 14 cells, separated by a central aisle. The French soldiers lie on the right and the Bavarian soldiers on the left.
Only the remains of the French soldiers are still visible. The crypt is covered by a terrace where the monument is located.
Since March 1, 1951, the Association of Veterans has been responsible for the building's maintenance.
