Ingledene Hotel (Sannox Hotel)

Originally known as the Ingledene Hotel, this modest inn at Sannox gained a unique place in military history during the Second World War. In late 1940, Lt. Roger Courtney used the hotel as the base for training his small “Folboat Section” in collapsible canoe operations. From these beginnings, the unit evolved into the Special Boat Section, later the Special Boat Service (SBS). The secluded bay and rugged coastline around Sannox provided ideal conditions for secret training in night landings, reconnaissance, and sabotage.

After the war, the hotel continued as a local landmark, remembered by veterans and their families as the birthplace of the SBS. In one of the rooms there is a memorial plaque for the SBS.
