German Wargraves Marfaux

This cemetery was established in 1921 by the French administration as a collective cemetery to consolidate the temporary cemeteries in 92 municipalities within a 20-kilometer radius.

Most of the casualties stem from the German offensives in May and July 1918 and the retreat in the summer and autumn of 1918.

According to the register, there are 4417 burials, of which 1,697 were in individual graves, 22 of which are unidentified.

In a semicircle, seven steles are placed with unit names of the buried victims.

The common grave contains 2,720 fallen soldiers, 2,512 of whom could not be identified.

The six Jewish graves were marked with a stele. The Hebrew inscription reads: "Here lies buried......May his soul be intertwined with the circle of the living."
