Gestapo Headquarters Frankfurt am Main

From 1940 to 1945, the villa at Lindenstraße 27 served as the Gestapo’s central office in Frankfurt. Originally built in the late 19th century as a residence for a Protestant foundation, the building was repurposed by the Nazi regime as a hub for surveillance, interrogation, and deportation.

Under SS-Obersturmbannführer Oswald Poche, the office coordinated the deportation of around 10,000 Jews between October 1941 and September 1942. The basement was reportedly used for interrogations and detentions, including of Swing Youth members like Emil Mangelsdorff.

After the war, the building housed the mayor’s office and later became the headquarters of a digital agency. A memorial plaque now marks its role in Nazi crimes, and its history has been documented in works like Andrea C. Hansert’s Das Haus der Gestapo.
