This soldier is believed to have died at the site where he is buried while attempting to rejoin his unit.
This soldier died, exhausted, on the spot. The second dragged himself to the forester's house, where the residents cared for him. He was able to identify his companion's place of death before he himself died. The two soldiers were discreetly buried in the woods, a few hundred meters apart, so the Prussians wouldn't discover them. The residents removed all traces (weapons, military papers). On August 6, the village of Goersdorf was occupied by the enemy.
