Former Grave General Aleksandr Vasiljevitsj Samsonov
General Alexander Vasilyevich Samsonov commanded the Russian troops at the Battle of Tannenberg. Facing his crushing defeat, he committed suicide at this location on 30 August 1914, and was buried here. His body was returned to Russia in 1916.
