Memorial Private Wojtek 'The Soldier Bear'

At the age of three months, a bear was adopted by Polish troops in Iran and named Wojtek. During World War II, he grew up with the Polish unit, where he also served as an artilleryman, including during combat operations. After the war, he was placed in Edinburgh Zoo, where he was allowed to be a bear again. He died in 1963.
