This plaque on the 14th tee of Mannings Heath Golf Club commemorates the Handley Page Halifax MZ765 that crashed here on 17 February 1945. The aircraft, which had just taken off from RAF Snaith on a mission to Wezel, caught fire in the engine while still carrying its full bomb load and crashed. Of the seven crew members, the pilot, Flight Lieutenant Theodore Norman Gerald Winning, and the bomb aimer, Flight Sergeant Jack Webb, were killed. The other crew members managed to leave the aircraft and were injured.
