This memorial, within the Skerries Kirk, commemorates Arthur Patrick Burdett who gave his life on 31 March 1942 in the Second World War when Halifax R9453 crashed in the sea. He was the only one who could be recovered.
Two other incidents are also commemorated: The air raid on the Lighthouse shore station on Grunay on 18 January 1942 in which Mary Ann Anderson was killed, and the crash of a Blenheim bomber (V5433) on Grunay on 21 February 1942 with the loss of all crew.
