Memorial HMY Iolaire

This memorial in the Carn Gardens commemorates the sinking of HMY Iolaire, on 1 January 1919, in which 201 people perished. The mayority were servicemen from the island on their way home after the eind of the First World War.
The memorial is a cairn built of 201 Stones - 1 for each man lost in the disaster, coming from his home village.
