Stumbling Stones Annostraße 106

These brass memorial plaques (Stolpersteine or stumbling stones) commemorate:
*JOSEF VIERKOTEN (born 1881, died 8 March 1945, Eitorf)
*ROSA VIERKOTEN (born 1884, died 20 June 1942, Cologne)

Josef Vierkotten was born on August 27, 1881, in Bergisch Gladbach. He was married to Rosa Vierkotten (born July 12, 1884, in Dirmerzheim). Together they had one child, a daughter named Käthe Sofie. In 1937, the family moved to Annostraße 106. Sadly, his wife Rosa died of arteriosclerosis in June 1942 in the Riehler Heimstätten. Josef Vierkotten himself was killed on March 8, 1945, in Eitorf as a victim of a devastating air raid.

These Stolpersteine lie here for Jewish war victims persecuted in World War II.

"Stolpersteine" is an art project for Europe by Gunter Demnig to commemorate victims of National Socialism (Nazism). Stolpersteine (stumbling stones) are small, 10x10cm brass plaques placed in the sidewalk in front of a residence of (usually Jewish) victims of the Nazis. Each plaque is provided with the name of the victim, date of birth and the fate of these people. By doing this, Gunter Demnig gives an individual memorial to each victim. One stone, one name, one person. He cites the Talmud: "A human being is forgotten only when his or her name is forgotten."
