On July 29, 1942 at 2306 departed from Topcliffe airfield, the Halifax R9442 with the mission a raid over the city Saarbrücken in Germany. The aircraft was shot down over Belgium by the German night-fighter Reinhold Eckardt, then the plane crashed down at 0300 in Corbais. All crew members died in the crash. They are all buried in this cemetery. Very special about this crash is that also Reinhold Eckardt was killed, he crashed in his Messerschmitt Bf 110 after he was hit by machine gun fire from the Halifax.
