Wreckage F6F-5 Hellcat Fighter - Air Men Memorial Yap

This wreckage is of a Grumman F6F-5 Hellcat fighter, which crashed nearby during the Second World War. The pilot, Ens. Joseph Cox, died in the crash. The Hellcat wreckage stands on display on the Yap island and is in memory of all American pilots who fell in the many aerial missions against Yap from June 1944 to August 1945.
