War Memorial Inverarish

This memorial commemorates the residents of Inverarish who were killed or missing in World War I and World War II.

Many of these memorials were erected after the First World War. After the Second World War, the names of those who died in that war were also added to the memorial.

The names of 22 men who served and perished during World War I are listed on the memorial, as well as 6 men who served and perished during World War II.

Donald Gillies never made it home. Serving in the Royal Garrison Artillery, he died on the 31st of August, 1917, aged just 25. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Gillies, of Fladda.
His remains are buried in the Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt.

Neil Gillies never made it home. Serving as a pilot in the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve, he died aged 27, on the 23rd of May, 1943. he was the son of John and Jessie Gillies, of Raasay.
His remains are buried in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery, Germany.

Ronald Beaumont Wood served as a Lieutenant Colonel in the 12th (Prince of Wales''s Royal) Lancers. He died, age 36, just 82 days before the end of hostilities.
His remains are buried in the Bienvillers Military Cemetery, France.
