Dutch War Graves Appleton Thorn

Appleton Thorn Cemetery contains two Dutch war graves from the Second World War, Off. P.J. Huijer and Sgt. Alexander Joseph Smith (picture).

Both graves are from Marine Airforce personnel who were trained at HMS Blackcap and were killed in a mid air collision on 15 March 1944. HMS Blackcap was a Royal Naval Air Station in Stretton, Warrington, Cheshire and was used for the defense of Liverpool and Manchester.
