Commonwealth War Grave Protestant Cemetery Deersum

On the Protestant Cemetery near the church in Rauwerderhem is one Commonwealth War Grave.
It is the grave of:

Flight Sergeant (Air Gnr.) Charles Pearn Philp, 972384,
Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve,
died on 30-6-1942 at age 23.

On June 29, 1942 at 2306 departed from Pocklington airfield in England, the Canadian Halifax W7714 with the mission: a bombing raid on Bremen in Germany. The aircraft was shot down over Friesland by a German night fighter and crashed in Spears. All crew members died in the crash. However, there was only one body recovered, he was buried in this cemetery. The other six crew members are to this day still missing. The Halifax wreck was recently detected by the rescue service of the Dutch Air Force. However, there was no excavation.
