Memorial Defenders Bridge Jartsevo 1941

This memorial is dedicated to the Soviet defenders of this bridge who held it for days despite heavy German attacks. The inscription on the memorial reads:

"Here on the banks of the Vop, one of the most largest battles with the fascist agressor occured from 16 July to 5 October 1941, during the Great Patriotic War. Heroism and courage were shown by the Soviet people during the Battle of Smolensk. Eternal fame to the heroes of the Battle of Smolensk."
