Memorial Battle of Kissamos

On 20th May 1941, the German invasion of Crete started. Not only Maleme, Rethimnon and Iraklion where attacked. Also Kissamos was attacked by German troops. Lieutenant Mürbe and 72 others landed above Kissamos. The target was the harbour of Kissamos who should be essential for transport for troops and weapons. But the First Greek Regiment and Cretan civilians attacked the Germans. Lieutenant Mürbe and 53 other where killed by the Greeks and Cretans.

This memorial has been erected in memory of the heroic soldiers and civilians who fought against the Germans during the Battle of Kissamos.
