Archanes is the former headquarters of the 22nd German Infantry Division. They remained there until the end of 1944. On the night of April 26/27, 1944, the then division commander, General Kreipe, left the headquarters by car for his residence. En route, the car was stopped by SOE agents, and the general was kidnapped.

Now it's the town hall of Archanes.
