Memorial Executions Evertsbos

On April 10, 1945, Gezinus Udding searched for a hole in the ground in which people in hiding had hidden. When he found this hole, it was filled with burnt wood and earth. He also found a large pool of blood. The cave in which the people in hiding (the so-called K.18) had hidden and which had been exterminated by the Sicherheitsdienst from Groningen in October 1944, had been sealed. When the cave was partially excavated, it was found that people had been buried in it, ten bodies were found. All victims had been killed by a shot in the neck.

Early on Sunday morning, April 8, at 4 a.m., the 10 resistance fighters from the House of Detention in Groningen were loaded into a truck and taken to the Evertsbos near Anloo under the guard of SD men.

These are the names of the men executed at the den:

P. Schreuder, clothing dealer from Groningen;
B. Bosma, farmer in Nieuwolda;
J. Walvius, lieutenant inspector food supply from Groningen;
J. Bolhuis, seed trader from Groningen;
