RAF Shipdham Remnants and 44th Bomb. Group Memorial

RAF Shipdham was built between 1941 and 1942 and was used by the USAAF 8th Air Force untill 1945. It have been in use by the 319th Bombardment Group (Medium) for a short time, they flew with Martin B-26 Marauder bombers. After they left, it became the home base for the heavy B-24 Liberator bombers of the 44th Bombardment Group (Heavy). Shortly after the war the airport was closed. In the 70s the airport was reopened and is to this day used by the Shipdham Aero Club. Other parts of the airport have fallen into disrepair or are currently in use as industrial estate.

RAF Shipdham was also known as USAAF Station 115,

On the grounds is a monument which commemorates the men of the U.S. 44th Bomb. Group Heavy, who have been stationed here during World War II.
