Memorial Walter Hasenclever

The famous poet and pacifist Walter Hasenclever was born in 1890 in the villa that belonged to this factory. His works were banned in 1933 and he himself fled from Germany.

After the German attack on France, he was imprisoned in the internment camp Les Milles near Aix-en-Provence in France. Because of the impending French defeat and the fear of subsequent persecution he committed suicide there on 21 June 1940.

The plaque is part of the project "Wege Gegen Das Vergessen" (Ways Against Forgetting).
